Celebrate with us

Come and join us to celebrate the 2022 Lunar New Year! National Library are teaming up with Asian Events Trust to present a whānau day to mark a memorable Lunar New Year celebration.

Enjoy the activities

During the Lunar New Year celebration you can:

  • enjoy cultural performances (dances)

  • try on traditional costumes

  • make lanterns at the craft table

  • get free cultural trinkets (limited numbers)

  • watch a short film about artist Rossano Fan in the Programmes Room

  • have Chinese tea and tiger-themed cookies at HOME Café.

We will also have cultural decorations and arts by Asian artists on site. There is something for everyone!

Year of the Tiger

2022 is the Year of the Tiger. National Library’s Whānau Day represents the 'Earth Tiger' and forms one of the five major events in the Asian Events Trust’s 2022 Lunar New Year Festival programme. Each of the events is built around the five elements that describe the relationship and interdependence of all things — water, earth, wood, fire, and metal.
