COVID-19 safety measures

When you visit the Library under the Orange traffic light setting:

  • You must wear a mask while you are at the Library.
  • Maintain physical distancing. Try to keep 2 metres away from other people, except for friends and family.
  • Follow COVID-19 health measures. Sneeze and cough into your elbow, wash your hands regularly.

We have updated our safety measures for visitors to the Library and a My Vaccine Pass is no longer required for entry.

Stay home if you are sick.

Change to Alexander Turnbull Library reading rooms hours

From 14 February the reading rooms will be closed on Mondays, we are reviewing this monthly. This is a temporary measure in anticipation of staffing gaps due to community transmission of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

We hope that this contingency will:

  • help us keep the service running on the remaining days of the week Tuesdays 10.00 to 5.00pm and Saturdays 9.00 to 1.00pm.
  • provide certainty for visitors.

Our Ask a librarian service may be a good alternative so that you can continue your research when you can’t visit the reading rooms. The friendly accommodating staff who you see in the reading rooms can deliver many research support services at a distance using Ask a librarian and accessing collection items on your behalf.

Visiting the reading rooms

When you visit the reading rooms the additional safety measures are in place.

  • You need to wear a mask while you are in the reading rooms. Library staff on desk duty will be wearing masks.
  • We will provide hand sanitiser and wipes to customers.
  • We will ask you to clean shared equipment before and after use.
  • We may need to refuse entry to the reading rooms where safe capacity has been reached.
