Description

Shows a large group of Tahitians at a ceremony, appearing to receive a royal couple. A woman holds out her hands towards the couple and she wears a large hoop-skirt. Other women dancers perform behind her and many others stand as spectators, watching, talking together and smoking; one woman at the front left wears a large cross on a chain. To the further away, another group sits watching a physical fight between two men. There are various huts in the scene, and numerous trees including banana palms. Figures are shown after John Webber (1784)
