Shows a half-length portrait of Pomare II, king of Tahiti, in white shirt and loose overtunic. He has his hair tied back, and wears a moustache. The engraving is further removed from that published in England in 1829 (engraver Woolnorth, in William Ellis' "Polynesian researches" vol. 1, frontispiece. H Fisher, Son & Co, publishers, 1829), than the version in the French edition of Domeny de Rienzi, and therefore is by a different engraver.
Plate 158 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. In the French edition, Danvin is inscribed as the copyist, and Mme Lesueur as the engraver.
Other known portraits by Lejeune and John Lewin, do not match this image sufficiently to have been sources. (See file prints in Drawings & Prints).
