Top image shows a Maori village with drying platforms, huts and palisades.

The lower image shows a pa on the top of an arched rock in the sea off the coast. There is a rowboat and further away a waka, in the foreground.

The Astrolabe, with artist Sainson on board, was at Paroa Bay, Bay of Islands on 12 March 1827
