Description: Shows an abandoned pa, with whare and food platforms still standing. The background shows hills surrounded a harbour. Description: Top image shows a Maori man about to strike a seated figure on the back of the head with a patu. The seated figure is tending a camp fire. A group of other Maori watch from the left background. The lower image shows two Maori women in front of a whare, sprinkling the head of a naked infant with water on springs of leaves. There is a bowl of water at the left where other women are dipping sprigs of leaves. The infant lies in a makeshift cradle made from a cloth laid over logs.
