Photograph album with carte de visite and cabinet photograph portraits of unidentified subjects, mostly taken by New Zealand photographers and studios, circa 1880s. Includes portraits taken by at least 37 different identified studios and photographers operating in Blenheim, Hokitika, Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Napier, and in England and Australia, including Ballarat, Carlisle, and Ambleside. Some portraits feature hand colouring.
Includes landscape photograph of a church building with spire, and Norfolk Island pine trees in foreground. Also includes carte with verse "Oh hear us when we cry to Thee | For those in danger on the sea"; and a birthday card with inscribed "I wish thee all the joys of earth | All peace that life can bring. | Contentment, happiness and mirth, | Free from misfortunes sting."
