The funeral of Nelson Mandela becomes a political football.
The funeral of Nelson Mandela and the service of national mourning was noted for the numbers of national leaders who judged it to be politcally expedient to be seen attending. Among them was the official New Zealand contingent of timeservers headed by the prime minister, John Key, who deliberately excluded any possible mourners who may have fought for the freedom of Mandela living.
