Description: Photographs taken during the royal tour of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1901. Scenes include the arrival of the royal visitors at various places, by ship, Royal carriages, and Royal train; ceremonies and rites welcoming them; views of triumphal arches erected for the tour, including Marble Arch (Queen Street, Auckland), the Auckland Harbour Board Arch, the Citizen's Arch (Wellesley Street), and the Government Arch (City of Wellington). Other ceremonies are associated with the presentation of war-medals; the laying of foundation stones (Victoria College for Maori Girls, Parnell, Auckland), the Wellington Town Hall, and the Queens Memorial Statue in Dunedin); and the march past and inspection of various guards, troops and veterans. One photograph shows Lord Ranfurly in Auckland, reading the proclamation extending the boundaries of the colony to include the Cook Islands (p 16). Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Papers of G S Roydhouse accumulated between 1935 and 1977, but covering a period from 1876 to 1977. A large part is made up of newspaper cuttings but the collection also includes letters, printed matter, maps, illustrations, typescripts. Most of the papers appear to have been collected as personal information files. They cover a wide range of subjects but are particularly strong on Egypt during World war II and on Maori history and culture. Includes some correspondence with Sir Peter Buck, 1951-1952 Source of title - Supplied Arrangement: See inventory for details A journalist with wide experience, who was the NZ Press Association's representative in the Parliamentary Press Gallery for sixteen years. As a member of the Press Association he reported on royal tours in 1953-1954 and 1956, and on international conferences at which NZ was officially represented by ministerial delegations during the late 1950s. Other positions he held were Managing Editor of the Westport News, 1961-1963, Sub-editor of the Marlborough Express, 1963-1964, Editor of the NZ Financial Times, 1964-1969, Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Polynesian Society, and Director of the Publications Division of the NZ Dairy Board. During World War II Roydhouse served in the Machine-gun Battalion and was editor of the Kiwi News for a time.
