Photographs of a state visit to the Cook Islands, followed by a tour of various subantarctic islands, viewing the landscape and fauna, by Lord and Lady Glasgow, on the ship Hinemoa, in 1894. Photographs of Rarotonga include portraits of Ariki Makea Takau and her husband Ngamaru Rongotini; large group scenes at various welcoming celebrations; scenes of life in Rarotonga; and Ariki Makea Takau's residence.
The Cook Islands photographs are followed by several newspaper cuttings of Lord Glasgow's visit; followed by views of Snares Island, Campbell Island, Antipodes Islands, Auckland Islands and Chatham Islands, also with newspaper cuttings. There are many views of penguins, mollymawks, Royal albatrosses, and sea lions; also views of people outside a Maori meeting house in the Chatham Islands.

Description: Photograph taken on a cruise of the southern islands by the Government steamship Hinemoa, with the Governor, Lord Glasgow, Sir James Hector and others. On 14 February, according to a newspaper report of the voyage, the Hinemoa sailed close to the cliffs on the north cape of Campbell Island, so that photographs could be taken of the Mollymawk rookeries, which at that time were just completing the breeding season.
