Description

Shows a missionary in a bush clearing, carrying an umbrella, standing on a path beside a robed Maori man. Behind at left is a party of seven Maori, three carrying bundles on their heads.

Drawn after Sainson's Missionaire de la Nouvelle Zelande avec sa suite - lithographe in Dumont d"Urville's "Voyage pittoresque autour du monde..." Paris: Furne et Cie, 1839. Plate 2, opp. p.398. ATL has this at: qR 910.8 DUM Voya.

This copy is from an edition of Domeny de Rienzi's "Oceanie" not held in ATL. This is concluded because title is given in French only, instead of two or even three languages. There were several editions of the work between 1836-72.
