The papers include an almost complete sequence of 450 letters dealing minutely with David Hunter's management of Porangahau Station (1859-1877); business correspondence of the firm of Bethune and Hunter; George Ernest Hunter's letters which formed the basis of his travel book `Round and about'; genealogies, obituaries and much miscellaneous data, some original, on the streets and social and business institutions of Wellington
