Children at Matauranga School, Wellington, and Headmistress, Marie Bell. Marie Bell is wearing the dress made and presented to her by the children. Photographed by an Evening Post staff photographer on the 18th of December 1969.
The 39 children, aged from four-and-a-half to 12, made the dress under the direction of the sewing teacher, Mrs M Kernick. They did all the work except for the hem, which was done by the infant mistress, Mrs H Sotiri. The project took four weeks.
