Mātauranga School

Alternative school begun in Wellington; started by Marie Bell in 1963, who taught 12 pupils at the Tararua Tramping Club building in Mount Victoria before the school moved to a small wooden building in Karori in 1967. By the 1970s the school roll had grown to more than 40 pupils and Matauranga moved to the Holy Family School building in Aro Valley. It eventually closed in 1982 when Marie Bell and then a later teacher Mike Regan left. The Aro Valley site is now Aro Park.
