Also includes photographs of the first school in Palmerston North and the Bank of Australasia Corner, Palmerston North, circa 1880. Photographers include W. Hall Raine, Keith R. Wade, Harold J. Dunstan, J M S Beale, A W Powell, and aerial photographs by Whites Aviation.

Description: Suspension bridge built by the Hare brothers over the Kaeo River in Kaeo, Northland, circa 1900. Photograph taken by A W Powell, circa 1950s. Note on back of file print reads: This unusual suspension bridge crosses a river a few miles south of Kaeo. Nth Auckland The bridge was built in twenty two days by the Hare brothers of Kaeo on the property which was then owned by W Hare. (Information from personal communication with Peter Green, the current owner, in 1997). The bridge was still in use and in good condition in 1997 when it was viewed by Helen Smith. W Hare was Wesley Hare. He and his brothers Joseph, William John, Wesley and Metcalf Hare formed Hare Bros, storekeepers of Kaeo. Joseph Jnr and William John Hare concurrently operated as Hare Bros, storekeepers of Whangaroa.
