- Description
The first section of the volume covers the period from 19 June 1766 up to 27 July 1767 and describes his voyage from England via Madeira and Cape Verde Island to Patagonia, then through the Straits of Magellan and previously unexplored parts of the Pacific, ending with an account of his stay at Tahiti which he named King George the Third's Island. The next entries are "Remarks made at Georges Island". The second section covers the period from his departure from Tahiti to his arrival back in England via Batavia and the Cape of Good Hope, 28 July 1767 to 10 June 1768. The end pages in the volume include notes on the "Character of Admiral Boscawen and "An account of what I delivered in at the Admiralty on my arrival. A wreath of hair. One hundred pearls..."
This log appears to be Wallis's own copy and the notes at the end on Admiral Boscawen etc are probably in his hand. An earlier draft of this log is held by the Mitchell Library in Sydney.
