Description

The top image is based on an original drawing by Sydney Parkinson in 1769, shows an outrigger boat with a sail, and in the left foreground a man paddling on a raft. There is a further sailed canoe in the left distance and headlands in the right background.

The lower image, from an original drawing titled "tupapow" by Parkinson in 1769, shows a masked and robed ceremonial figure with a long staff in the left foreground. In the centre middle background is a fence enclosure containing a roofed platform on which a shrouded body is lying.
