The former New Zealand Loan and Mercantile records consist of some files from the Wellington head office, and a large collection from the Gore branch, mainly of correspondence from other South Island agencies, and financial, stock and other returns. The Dalgety boxed records are from the Christchurch and head office, and consist mainly of correspondence and financial records. The volumes in 76-291 are from the original Dalgety head office. Source of title - Supplied title Relationship complexity - John Varnham account book held at qMS-2074 John Rowe Varnham was born ca 1818 the second son of Warner & Mary Varnham. He emigrated from the Isle of Wight in 1842 after service with the East India Company. In Wellington he became a successful shipping owner and merchant. In 1859 he entered into partnership with W N Luxford and C E Luxford and two others and purchased land in the Upper Tauweru but by 1863 the deal had gone sour and Varham went to Papawai where he leased land. He died 17 May 1868 leaving his wife Elizabeth Smith (Marshall) and his 5 daughters and 4 sons. Quantity: 1 folder(s). 2 Electronic document(s). 0.01 Linear Metres.
