Handwritten diary kept by New Zealand Army nurse Elise Grey between August 1916 to September 1917. The narrative details Grey traveling from to New Zealand to England via the Panama Canal onboard the ‘Rotorua’ and the activities that occurred en route, sightseeing and shopping in and around London whilst awaiting stationing in France, describing the working conditions at the Military Hospitals and the battlefields of France and then returning back to England.

Inscriptions: Verso - centre - Children’s writing added later by Marion and David Grey, Elsie's niece and nephew.
Elsie Grey was the great aunt of the donor.

Processing information: The diary received conservation treatment to replace the cover and binding, which had deteriorated beyond repair. The spine and other fragments have been stored inside the box.
