Description

Photographs, some taken by Lorna Rowland and some by other photographers, in New Zealand in the 1940s and 1950s.

Includes photographs of the Harbour Defence Motor Launch 'Alert' in Dusky Sound; views of French Pass township from the water, Elaine Bay, French Pass lighthouse, and the road between French Pass and Nelson taken from the saddle between Elaine Bay and Squally Cove; French Pass lighthouse; a deerstalkers' hut; the Hermitage; the jetty at Stewart Island; the 'Pamir' (photographed in 1947) and signed by its Master H S [Horace Stanley] Collier; a museum exhibit of a black shag; two photographs of the Dunstan Hotel, Clyde; and a 1979 Forest Service photograph of Hoffmans Dam at Naseby taken by Grant L Bulling.

It is possible that some of these photographs were illustrations for articles as some of them are marked up as for publication; some have inscriptions.

Some photographs are very similar to those taken for Rowland's "Three Islands" articles in 'The Freelance'. See Library reference PAColl-2552-06.
