Accompanying note from cartoonist states 'Cartoon depicts Minister of Conservation Nick Smith demanding an apology from Opposition parties following a 'clearance of wrongdoing' from the Speaker'.
On 25 October 2013 The Conservation Minister, Nick Smith, said that opposition parties owed him an apology for suggesting he lied to Parliament on whether he knew about a draft submission on the proposed Ruataniwha Dam in Hawke's Bay. Parliament's speaker had dismissed a privileges complaint from the Labour Party that Dr Smith misled the House over when he knew about the draft submission from the Department of Conservation.
