An immigration official welcomes an American to New Zealand. Bill English, the Minister of Finance, informs him that rather than agreeing to be 'an honest, law-abiding and patriotic citizen' a cheque for '$10 million made out to us' is acceptable. Behind him, Russell Coutts is welcomed with the words ' most kiwis are only too keen to bury the hatchet', preferably 'right in the back'.
The cartoon refers to an informal policy of accepting intending immigrants to New Zealand on basis of wealth rather than other possible contributions to the community, and, on a seperate topic, the attitude of many New Zealanders to the New Zealand yachtsman, Russell Coutts, who worked for Oracle Team United States in the September 2013 America's Cup challenge, and was instrumental in beating off the challenge from Emirates Team New Zealand.
