Description

Two men sitting on a bench listen to the radio which announces 'Kei te whakarongo mai ki te Re [sic] Irirangi o Aotearoa'. One tells the other 'Maori Language Week!' Pita Sharples walks by, swearing heavily. The other man replies 'Maori politician bad language week!'

Maori Language Week, celebrated on the first week of July 2013, was promoted by Radio New Zealand under the slogan 'Kei te Whakarongo mai koe ki te Reo Irirangi o Aotearoa'. During that time, following the Party's defeat in the Ikaroa-Rawhiti by-election, Pita Sharples reluctantly resigned from his leadership role in the Maori Party. The cartoonist comments 'Ka kite ano, Pita.'
