Maori Language Week, celebrated on the first week of July 2013, was promoted by Radio New Zealand under the slogan 'Kei te Whakarongo mai koe ki te Reo Irirangi o Aotearoa'. During that time, following the Party's defeat in the Ikaroa-Rawhiti by-election, Pita Sharples reluctantly resigned from his leadership role in the Maori Party.
