Description

A view of Captain Cook at the water's edge at Kealakekua Bay, Hawaii, probably based on Cleveley's 1788 work 'View of Owhyhee, one of the Sandwich Islands in the South Seas'. Shows Cook as a peace-maker, while fighting goes on around him, and he is oblivious to two men behind him, one wielding a club and the other a dagger. The Resolution and Discovery can be seen in the background. The clothing worn by the Hawaiians is decorative and detailed
