View of Wellington from Tinakori Hill, with Thorndon in the foreground and Te Aro in the middle distance to the left, Mount Victoria, the harbour and Miramar Peninsula beyond. Grant Road is at the immediate foot of the hill in the foreground, Tinakori Road runs parallel to Grant Road, Hill Street leads off at an angle. The large house in the right foreground is the Prime Minister's residence, once a ministerial residence and later a dental clinic. The church-like building at the centre left near the junction of Tinakori Road and Hawkestone Streets was St Paul's Schoolroom, originally the 2nd St Andrew's Church on Lambton Quay, moved in the 1870s. The spire beyond marks St Mary's Catholic Church in Hill Street, with the Provincial Chambers opposite. Government House on the site of the present-day Beehive can also be seen.
The sky in this version is relatively faded. For stronger colouring, but a tear through the sky, see copy at C-060-005-a.
