Jean-Baptiste Cabri was a French deserter, living on the Marquesas Islands and married to a local woman. Russian explorer von Langsdorff discovered him in 1804, and took him back to Moscow, where he launched a theatrical career and later toured Europe, regaling audiences with his adventures and displaying his tattooed body.
