Description

Engine driver and stoker (unidentified) on board the Bc class steam locomotive NZR 463, circa 1910, possibly in the Manawatu region.

Note on back of file print reads: "A Manawatu engine driver and stoker. In 1908 hauled the first passenger train from Wellington to Auckland. Became Bc no 463."

This locomotive was in service between 1902-1927. Also known as WMR 17. (Information from "Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971" by W G Lloyd)
