Shows two figures looking towards a small island in a bay with coconut palms to the left. Possibly in Vanuatu (New Hebrides) area
Formerly attributed to William Fox because part of his collection. However the work is not in his hand. In the style of W.A.McCleverty, or possibly E.F.Temple. McCleverty may have visited New Hebrides with R.A.Oliver around 1850. New Caledonia was also visited on the same trip.
A descendant of E.F. Temple, Mr N.T. Barker, visited on 17 November 1994, and considered the attribution to E.F. Temple unlikely. The artist (born 1835) had by the 1850s probably not reached mature style, and was engaged in army service in India at the time.
