Album relating to the establishment of a phosphate mining industry at Makatea Island in the Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia, between 1909 and 1913.
Images show some of the people involved with the Compagnie Francaise des Phosphates de L'Oceanie, including Maitre Goupil, and Messieurs Touze, Agache and Bonnet; the offices of the company, both in Papeete and on Makatea Island; and the home of Mr Agache in Papeete. There are scenes of sailing ships and steam ships delivering equipment, and scenes of construction of railway lines, jetties and wharves.
