Papers relating to early Maori and European history of Gisborne and Poverty Bay area includes correspondence, articles, publications and clippings. Includes some oral history accounts by Mrs Finucane (nee Frances Ellen Morris), Fred Kirk, Joe Dalton and others and a biography of James Mackay (1831-1912). Also includes an article titled "The distribution of indigenous flora in the East Cape district" by R D Cresswell of Tokomaru Bay, a list of land owners of Horowhenua XIB42A14, and an article by Fowler "Before Cook" relating to the early Maori history of Poverty Bay, and pamphlets published by the Historic Places Trust about Prehistory in New Zealand [1963] and about Richmond Cottage.
