- Description
Design drawing for the cover of Brett's Christmas number for 1930 shows a scene in the South Island high country, with bush-covered hills, glimpse of a mountain river, and snow-capped peaks. In the left foreground is a group of Maori, one of whom is sitting on the ground peeling one of a pile of potatoes. There is a metal container and a large kete beside her. Another woman sits beside her, and another (a mother with her baby on her back) stands beside them. Beyond is a Maori man with a staff, and a whare with two figures sitting in front of it. There is a tall straight-trunked tree in the right foreground.
The shape of the snowy range and landscape is taken from a photograph of Mount Cook and the Fox Glacier, by George Chance (photo also reproduced in Brett's Christmas number 1931, page 9)
