In the left foreground is a group of Maori, one of whom is sitting on the ground peeling one of a pile of potatoes. There is a metal container and a large kete beside her. Another woman sits beside her, and another (a mother with her baby on her back) stands beside them. Beyond is a Maori man with a staff, and a whare with two figures sitting in front of it. There is a tall straight-trunked tree in the right foreground.
