Contains minutes of several meetings held at Papawai, Greytown, in preparation for a large hui to raise funds for the New Zealand forces fighting in the South African War; also contains a schedule of correspondence related to the hui; also contains waiata, haka, whakapapa and historical narratives about Ngati Kahungunu occupation in Wairarapa, the origin of various place names, conflicts involving Ngati Kahungunu, and notes about the migration from Hawaiki
Also includes whakapapa from the Tainui ancestor Mango to Raiha Puaha (Ngati Toa), and stories about Mango, Kaihamu, Uetapu, all ancestors of the Ngati Toa; and Whatihua, also of the Tainui confederation.
