Comprises letter from I W Swan to Evans (1944) giving background to his association with the 1911 British Eclipse Expedition and enclosing his four page account of his time with the expedition in which he describes the members and crew, the scientific and photographic work done at Vavau, the setting up of the eclipse clock, the eclipse itself on 29 April and their departure on 4 May for Suva and Sydney. Swan mentions that the ships he and Evans were on met briefly in Akaroa Bay; Evans had been to the Antarctic.
