A single-storied wooden house, with French doors and a conservatory to its right, a sweeping curved drive and circular flowerbeds, with part of Hill Street in the foreground. In the left background is Colonel William Wakefield's house, with the hills of the Bolton Street area and The Terrace beyond
Fox's home was on the site of General Assembly building, corner of Hill Street and Molesworth Street; Wakefield's home was the site of the Beehive.
Dating: William and Sarah Fox arrived in Wellington on 7 November 1842. The date 1843 is suggested for this watercolour because of the appearance of the garden as very recently established. William and Sarah fox were both keen gardeners
