Cooper describes her early life in Greenwich, Kent and Camberwell, Surrey; the voyages of her father, Captain John Parsons, to New Zealand for the Canterbury Association with mention of John Godley, her voyage to Lyttelton in 1853 on the Minerva, life at Dampier Bay (now West Lyttelton) and in Christchurch as a governess, her marriage to Charles Edward Cooper in 1859 and her husband's job with the `Lyttelton Times'; later period living in Timaru and return to Christchurch in 1894; and at Sumner 1899. Many early Christchurch families are mentioned.
