Description: Folder one consists of letters, some incomplete, written by Hamilton to his parents during the period 11 April 1844 to 25 Dec 1845. These letters describe Hamilton's experiences as private secretary to Governor FitzRoy, including comments on the fighting in the Bay of Islands, his opinions on the state of New Zealand and news of FitzRoy being recalled in late 1845.
