Comprises papers mostly relating to Arthur Aris King and James Baxter Fleck and life in Samoa.

Material relating to Arthur Aris King includes a series of newspaper articles by Custos (Thomas Trood), G E L Westbrook and by Spectator (possibly Trood or King), a collection of clippings about Robert Louis Stevenson, photocopies of school work and personal papers relating to Mary Vakanielato and papers relating to King, Samoa and the Pacific; `James Baxter Fleck, 1867-1939' in which Hunt remembers her father's life (2000) and `Reminiscences, Susana and Kingi' in which Hunt records stories she remembers for their descendants (2003).

Other material relating to James Baxter Fleck includes manuscripts and research materials, publications, and a series of Samoan postcards.

The publications are titled `Samoa 1917, Dear Mr Best: letters written 1917-19, from Pte James Baxter Fleck, Samoa Relief Force, to Elsdon Best, ethnologist, Dominion Museum, Wellington, New Zealand' assembled by Alice Hunt with additional commentary and a description of the geology of the Islands of Samoa by Dr Clel Wallace. Also two folders of original speech notes by James Baxter Fleck with related information, and transcriptions by Alice Hunt.

Also includes the publication `Greetings from Samoa: early twentieth century postcards and a tribute to photographer Alfred Tattersall: Hunt family collection' compiled by Alice Hunt. With loose photographic postcards which correlate to the images of the postcards in this publication. Some of the postcards are blank on the reverse, and some have written correspondence. Many of the images in the postcards were photographed by Alfred Tattersall.

Description: Folder of 48 postcards from Samoa with images photographed by Alfred Tattersall and Thomas Andrew. The postcards were all reproduced in the publication compiled by Alice Hunt 'Greetings from Samoa: Early Twentieth Century Postcards and a tribute to Alfred Tattersall' (Palmerston North: Manuia Books, 2016). The photographic postcards document Samoa, including historic events such as the cyclone of 1889, the volcanic eruption of 1905, and some are dated 1910. During this period Samoa was under German administration and consequently many of the postcards feature captions in the German language. Other subject matter depicted includes: - Volcanic activity, including lava running into the sea - Shipping, including naval vessels and fishing canoes - Shipwrecks of American and German naval vessels following cyclone of 1889 - Landscapes and scenery, including waterfalls - The build environment, including traditional and colonial buildings - Individual and group portraits of people, ranging from copra workers and to the king of Samoa, Malietoa Laupepa. - Natural history and indigenous costumes and adornments Some of the postcards bear the imprint of the "Deutsche Samoa-Gesellschaft, Berlin-Apia" Also two postcards not directly related to Samoa, one portraying two female subjects related to Women's Auxiliary Army Corps, and one depicting "The Mosque of Omar, at Jerusalem".
