Shipboard diary kept by James Greenwood, a cabin passenger on board the `Duke of Roxburgh' which sailed from London on 21 Sep 1839 and arrived at Wellington on 8 Feb 1840. Greenwood kept a detailed record of events on board, mentioning many of his fellow passengers, especially Mr and Mrs Gomm. He also relates the drowning of the Captain which happened just outside the entrance to Port Nicholson, his and others first impressions of Wellington and the first week after arrival. Mention is made of the `Oriental' and ` Aurora' which had arrived in Wellington shortly before the `Duke of Roxburgh'. The diary entries cover 20 Sep 1839-14 Feb 1840.
