Description: Account of voyage from Gravesend to Port Chalmers on the vessel `Margaret Galbraith'. Hilliker was travelling in the single men's compartment and his brief daily entries record the ship's progress, vessels sighted, weather and events on board. He arrived at Port Chalmers on 9 Jan and took the steamer to Oamaru, his final destination, arriving on 20 Jan 1875. The medical comforts, list of stores and a chart detailing daily rates of sailing which are at the back of the original log have not been transcribed. Dr Thomas Hughes was the Surgeon Superintendent on board the New Zealand Company vessel `Clifford' during her voyage to Wellington and Nelson. The ship left Gravesend on 18 December 1841 and arrived at Nelson, its final destination, on 11 May 1842. Includes shipboard accounts of the voyage to Port Chalmers on the 'Dominion' in 1851 with the Richardson family, a voyage home to England via Melbourne on the 'Thomas and Henry', and 'Royal Charter' in 1857, and the return voyage to Port Chalmers in 1858 on 'Agra'. He includes some of his wife's diary entries in his reminiscences. His first year in New Zealand was spent at Otepopo on the sheep station owned by Charles Suisted.
