Description

A view of Christmas Harbour with the Resolution and the Discovery in the harbour. Two boatloads of men are rowing out to one of the ships and a third boat is at the water's edge. A fourth boat can be seen in the distance with men standing on the shore. In the central foreground a flock of twenty penguins are disposed in groups. A sea-lion is in the left foreground near rocks. A man with a large stick is preparing to kill one of the penguins. Two dead birds lie on the ground beside him. Other penguins can be seen on the beach. In the background a cliff surmounted by a large rock.
