Shows the sculptor Alexander R Fraser drawing at a table. He wears spectacles and is smoking a cigarette.
Artist attributed because of other material of the same provenance. The work is also said to be a self portrait of Fraser, although the pose does not suggest this.
Fraser returned to New Zealand in 1937 and was here until his death in 1953. Frederick Ellis came to New Zealand in 1921. Therefore it is likely that the work was made between 1937 and 1950.
