Description: Brit Bunkley and Andrea Gardner describe their backgrounds in the United States where they both grew up. Andrea recalls travelling and living in Rome where she met Brit who was there on a fellowship at the American Academy. Brit describes his art projects and they both talk about their time together in southern California, Arizona and New York. Andrea gives a detailed account of the area in New York where they lived communally with about thirty people. Both discuss how their perceptions changed about their living conditions once their child, Noah, was born, and their decision to move. Brit describes his reaction to the Wanganui job advertisement for a sculptor at the Department of Fine Arts in the Polytechnic. Describe their expectations of New Zealand and both consider they have been met. Brit talks about the USA public art commissions he is missing by being in New Zealand and elaborates on his thoughts on career opportunities. Andrea describes how she is perceived at St George's School where she teaches art. They discuss celebrations and family holiday dinners in the States. Describe their new invented traditions, Andrea's love of gardening and Brit's love of country life. They also talk about five-and-a-half year old Noah's contentment in New Zealand. Talks about receiving tenure as head of the 3-D Department at the University of Houston in 1988. Recalls his dislike of Houston.
