Description

The cartoon shows six little scenarios in each of which a dog representing Maori Party MP Hone Harawira tries to get through a door into the Maori Party 'house'. Each time for the first four times he is told to get out. In the fifth scenario the dog growls and the Party relents and lets him in. Refers to the unofficial sidetrip taken by Harawira and his wife to Paris while in Europe at tax-payers' expense. Hone Harawira was widely criticised for this as well as his use of foul language and strong anti-Pakeha comments in an email. Harawira has caused the Maori Party to risk losing credibility and there has been debate in the party and among his constituents and Te Tokerau elders about whether he should remain in the party. In the end a decision was made that he should retain his position in the party perhaps somewhat against the wishes of the leadership but then they were in a difficult position. Hone Harawira has had to make two apologies, the second being rather more sincere than the first.
