Description

Log kept by the First Mate of the Nimrod, includes the list of crew members together with the signatures of members of the British Antarctic Expedition, the towing by the Koonya, description of ship activities, the ice shelf, the unloading and setting up of the expedition, and the voyage back to Lyttelton. Includes detailed meteorological and other observations.

The Nimrod, the ship for the British Antarctic Expedition under Ernest Shackleton, in order to conserve fuel, was towed to Antarctic waters by the cargo carrier, Koonya. After leaving the Koonya, the Nimrod sailed to McMurdo Sound, unloaded the expedition and its supplies at Cape Royds, and returned to Lyttelton under its own steam.
