Drawn on a published map, the annotations depict government management of land mainly in the Taranaki Region from Patea to Mokau, then following the Mokau River to Te Tiroa down to the upper reaches of the Wanganui River. Physical areas are colour-coded in yellow as 'Land awarded to natives', and in green as 'Balance of confiscated land' while 'Balance of land purchased' is uncoloured. Tribal boundaries, Iwi names and confiscation boundaries are marked.
