Image published in 'New Zealand Free Lance', 16 April 1947, with caption “The Maraeroa team, winner of the haka event, gives a good performance.” The accompanying text states “Keeping Maori traditions alive. Nine teams from Maori schools from North Auckland took part in the annual haka and action-song competitions, held at Kaikohe native school recently. The Maori Tangi Shield was awarded for the best haka and the Ngapuhi Shield for the best action song performance.”
