Description

Transparency slides of New Zealand scenes and events, taken between 1957 and 1967 by Ron Potts and other family members, and collected by Angela Potts. Also photographs taken by unidentified photographers relating to Ron Potts' extended family and their involvement in World War One and World War Two.

Most transparencies relate to holidays around New Zealand with photographs featuring landscapes, buildings, and infrastructure. The people who appear in the photographs are largely unidentified with the exception of members of royal families, Victor George Boivin, Ron and Angela Potts, and Bill Hamilton. Events photographed include air shows, British and Thai royal visits, the Hastings Blossom Festival, James Smith Christmas Parade in Wellington, evangelist Billy Graham's Crusade at Athletic Park, the 1963 New Zealand Grand Prix in Pukekohe, and the opening of Wellington Airport in 1959. Subject areas of focus include construction and Methodist church buildings.

Description: Transparencies show air shows at Ohakea Aerodrome dated 29 March 1958 (Royal New Zealand Air Force 21st Anniversary Air Show) and February 1964, and the opening of Wellington Airport at Rongotai, October 1959. Also the crowd at Athletic Park during the Billy Graham Crusade 30 March to 6 April 1959. Taken by Ron Potts. Air show photographs include two United States Air Force planes (a Globemaster and a Republic F-105 Thunderchief), unidentified aircraft, crowds, and parked cars. Title supplied by Library. Description: Transparencies of New Zealand landscapes, buildings, and events, 1958 to 1964. Taken by Ron or Angela Potts or Victor or Phyllis Boivin. Photographs show a railway bridge in the Manawatu, Evans Bay boatsheds, Rimutaka Hill Road, Foxton Beach, Wellington Harbour (ferry terminal and visiting Japanese ships), a cow grazing by Hutt Stream, Wairaki Power Station under construction. and the Savage Memorial at Bastion Point with a view of the Waitemata Harbour and Rangitoto Island. Also Māori rock drawings at an unidentified location. Building photographs include the interior and exterior of Old St Pauls, Wellington, and the exterior of Mansion House Kawau Island. Description: Transparencies relating construction and New Zealand holidays, 1957 to circa 1963. Taken by Ron or Angela Potts or Victor or Phyllis Boivin. Four photographs stored together relate to construction. Two transparencies show the "Mushroom" building at the University of Canterbury School of Engineering, an unidentified government department building in Wellington, and Dunedin Dental School. Photographs from holidays in New Zealand show Dunedin (Lanarch Castle, Signal Hill New Zealand Centennial monument), Christchurch (Airport building, Taylor's Mistake, a car), and a mountain scene. Transparencies relating to Victor George Boivin

Description: Transparencies show photographs relating to Victor Boivin and a conference in London. Bovin is photographed on Victoria Street, London, on 17 June 1960. Photographs taken by Victor Boivin and possibly Phyllis Boivin. The London conference photographs show seated delagates from different countries and are dated April 1961. "Steaming over Westport Bar" with Bovin's address on it, shows an unidentified stoker on board a steam-powered vessel shoveling coal into a firebox . Title supplied by Library.
