New Zealand Olympic Committee: Records

Collection of records of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, ca 1908-2013. Includes Board minutes, reports and correspondence; papers relating to the International Olympic Committee and subject files relating to Olympic and British Empire/Commonwealth games in which New Zealand teams participated in. Also the personal collection of the athlete and coach Arthur Lydiard, six boxes of photographs, manuscripts, published material, photographs and curios. And a second personal collection from Stanley Lay, three boxes, which includes curios, photographs, scrapbook, manuscripts and published material.

Photographs are of

1. Official NZ Olympic and Commonwealth teams, 1954 -2006, and British Empire Games 1930 and 1934

2. Stanley Lay, including athletic club team photographs, albums of his tour England 1928 and NZ 1929, and Canada 1930, and a photograph of the Queen Alexandra's Mounted Rifles 1926.

3. Arthur Lydiard, including team photographs of various athletic and Harrier Clubs, and Olympic teams, 1928 to 2000; and slides of Lydiard as coach, and of Olympic and other athletic stadia, family photographs, and a sample of photographs taken in the countries he visited, circa 1960 to 1970s.

Includes audiovisual material from Arthur Lydiard's personal collection and other audiovisual material relating to the New Zealand Olympic committiee.

Arrangement: The records were arranged in their current form by the New Zealand Olympic Committee before they were deposited with the Library. This arrangement has been retained. The original file number of each record has been placed in brackets at the end of each file title. A copy of the original file list is located at MSDL-2255.

Audiovisual material added to this collection in April 2022 was arranged in an order imposed by the Library.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee is the National Olympic Committee in New Zealand as recognised by the International Olympic Committee. It is also the organisation in New Zealand affiliated with the Commonwealth Games Federation to promote the Commonwealth Games and other Commonwealth sporting events.
